The placenta can be ingested orally in raw form, and is often blended together with fruit and yogurt as part of a smoothie. To allow the placenta to “keep” beyond a few hours postpartum, the fresh placenta can be blended in a smoothie and then frozen into an ice cube trays. These “placenta cubes” can be added to additional smoothies over the first few weeks postpartum, and (so long as they stay frozen) can be kept in the freezer for up to six weeks postpartum for use as needed.
